Home BUS and other Travel Information

Getting to and from Ewelme

The village is served by two bus services and three different operators.

The 139 service, operated by Thames Travel, runs between Wallingford and Henley on an hourly (two-hourly on Sundays and public holidays) timetable through the day to about 8:45 pm.  The only stops in the village are in Green Lane and Benson Road at the western end of the village.  It connects either in Wallingford or at Benson Marina with the X39/X40 service which runs half-hourly through the day and hourly in the evenings (hourly on Sundays and public holidays) between Oxford and Reading.  Thames Travel run many other services around South Oxfordshire.

The 125 service is run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays by goride between Chalgrove and Wallingford through Ewelme, stopping at Hampden Way, Kings Pool, the Shepherds Hut and Cottesmore Lane, with one bus in each direction, giving a little over two hours in Wallingford.  On Tuesdays, there is a return service to Thame for Market Day.  The 125 service on Fridays (Wallingford Market Day) is run by Whites Coaches to a slightly different timetable.

By car

Ewelme is just to the south of the B4009 about 2 miles east of Benson and about 6 miles from junction 6 on the M40.
For a map of the area see Multimap

By bus from London

The Oxford Tube, which runs from Oxford to and from London, stops at Junction 6 on the M40 if you can find someone to give you a lift there. Officially there is no parking at the motorway junction but in practice, many people park or get dropped there to use this cheap, 24 hour, frequent service. (Ranging from every 12 minutes during the day, to 15 or 20 minutes in the evening and hourly in the middle of the night.)

By train

The closest station is Cholsey, served by Thames Trains from Paddington westwards.
It is possible to reach Ewelme using Thames Travel buses (see above) from Goring station, the next station along the line towards Reading from Cholsey.  In the other direction, there are more frequent and faster trains available from Didcot, the busiest station in Oxfordshire.
